Expansion Project
In 2016, Compagnie des Bauxites de Guinée launched an ambitious project to expand its mining operations, which was completed in 2024, with the aim of increasing its production capacity, modernizing its rail and port infrastructure, and strengthening its strategic position in the global bauxite market.
The main objectives of this strategic project were:
- Increase annual bauxite production from approximately 13.5 million tons to a target capacity of 25 to 28 million tons per year to meet global demand and ensure a stable supply to international markets.
- Modernize mining and logistics infrastructure, including the Boké railway and the port facilities in Kamsar, in order to optimize the transport and export of produced volumes.
- Generate positive socioeconomic benefits for local communities through job creation, skills development, and support for local initiatives.
- Ensure sustainability and safety by applying strict international standards across all operations.
During the project, CBG commissioned new storage and processing facilities in Sangarédi and Parawi, modernized its rail and port infrastructure, and employed more than 1,500 workers for the various construction phases. The total investment in the project reached approximately $1 billion, marking a major commitment to the country’s industrial and economic development.
The expansion project has strengthened CBG’s industrial capacity, optimized the supply chain from mining to export, and increased exports of high-quality bauxite. It has also generated significant socioeconomic benefits for local communities, reinforcing CBG’s role as a strategic and responsible player in Guinea’s mining sector.
This initiative perfectly illustrates the CBG’s vision: to combine industrial performance, infrastructure modernization, and sustainable development in order to make a lasting contribution to Guinea’s economic and social growth.
